Star Wars Young Jedi Knights: The Lost Ones by Kevin J. Anderson and Rebecca Moesta

Up to the third book in the Young Jedi Knights series.

Jacen, Jaina, Tenel Ka, and Lowbacca go to Coruscant. While there they introduce Tenel Ka and Lowbacca to Zekk, an old friend. Zekk is an orphan from Ennth. He had made his way to Coruscant and survived by finding bits and pieces in the undercity that he could sell. He lived with Peckhum, the guy that delivers supplies to the Jedi Academy.

They have a little adventure with Zekk, and the twins invite him to some diplomatic dinner one evening. Which, this doesn't go great. In the end, Zekk feels embarrassed and leaves. And while he's walking around feeling sorry for himself, Tamith Kai shows up. She tells Zekk he's force sensitive and that he could be a dark Jedi. And Zekk agrees. Sort of. He doesn't agree right away, but in the end, he does.

And that's basically it. They go back to Yavin 4 and Luke tries to give them some realistic hope about their friend. The end. Time for the next book.

Okay. So, when I was a kid, Zekk quickly became one of my favorite characters. I don't really know why, but I fell in love with him. And I still fully enjoy his character. And as a kid, this was my least favorite book in the series because I was so angry at Jacen and Jaina for not knowing their friend was force sensitive. I'm still a little angry about it, but less so. I get why they didn't know. And I understand why Zekk felt that going to the Shadow Academy and becoming a dark Jedi was a good idea. Though, I gotta say, if I was in Jaina's situation where I had this good friend, I would beg Luke to test him for force sensitivity. Even if he showed no signs. But... I'm a little clingy with people I care about.

This is still not a favorite book of mine from this series. I enjoyed the family bits with the Solos. But the book still leaves me feeling kind of sad. Even though I know what happens in the later books.

It is not a bad book. Great plot. Characters are great. I just have some weird childhood anger towards it.

That's all for this week. Follow me on the socials.

What I'm Watching

 What I’m Watching…

Just a quick refresher for anyone that forgot:

With the new year, I got back into scheduling what I watch. By that I mean, each day I focus on one streaming service or watching DVDs/blu-rays I own. I started doing this years ago and it really helped me to actually finish watching shows instead of just starting something and then going back and watching random shit on YouTube for the next month. Which is what I’ve been doing for the past year, really. So, I’m going to start some posts talking about what I’m watching for each day and my thoughts, and my expectations to actually finish it.

These posts are done as I finish up the schedule.

DVD/blu-ray

M3gan

Pretty good movie. Predictable as hell, but still a fun watch.

Oh, and a warning: The dog dies. It is not graphic and happens mostly offscreen, but yeah, he dies.

DVR

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver

No commentary on this.

HBO Max

Ghost Ship

Ya know, I fully enjoy this movie and have watched it multiple times, but I still can never remember what the fuck happens after that opening scene. Even now, with the movie just finished I’m kind of like “well… There was a ghost… And a ship…” I still really enjoy the movie though.

The Haunting

Always a good watch, in my opinion.

Signs

I still like this movie. Forgot about the dog deaths though.

Netflix

Finished up Absurd Planet, which was such a fun show.

Watched the Resident Evil movies that were available after that. Well, the ones with Milla Jovovich. They didn’t have all of them. Which, rude.

Prime

Elvira: Mistress of the Dark

13 Nights of Elvira

The Elvira movie is always such a fun watch. I love her so much.

13 Nights of Elvira is basically movies with Elvira popping in with some commentary. I watched three “episodes”. First movie - Cannibal Women in the Avacado Jungle of Death - was bad. So bad. Second was Puppet Master, which I watched years ago. Need a rewatch of it, honestly. I wasn’t fully paying attention this time and it seems bad but a fun bad. Third was Dollman. As I said I wasn’t fully paying attention so I have no idea what happened in this movie.

Roku

Killer Mysteries

Just some true crime while I read fan-fiction…

Tubi

Labyrinth

Gods, still love this movie… But, straight up, if I was Sarah I would ask David Bowie to send the kid back and make me the Goblin Queen.

Most Terrifying Places in America

I really enjoy this show. Just people telling spooky stories. And the narrator is perfectly dramatic for the content.

VUDU

Resident Evil

Resident Evil: Apocalypse

Resident Evil: Extinction

Resident Evil: Afterlife

Resident Evil: Retribution

I feel like I should mention that after I watched all of these (most of the second time within the week) I put on CJUGames playing Resident Evil to fall asleep to. I even made a playlist so I could easily go to the videos whenever I wanted.

Night Shift by Stephen King

Night Shift is a book of Stephen King's short stories. It was originally published in 1976, so these are some of his older stories. Was gonna just give y'all a paragraph of which stories I really liked, but, that is boring (or something) so have my opinions of each story. Enjoy. Or don't. I don't control you.

Jerusalem's Lot

This one was really interesting. Made me want to read Salem's Lot again. It is a prequel to the book and is told through letters.

Graveyard Shift

Ugh. Rats. Not a bad story, but ugh, so many rats.

I started this movie recently and didn't finish it. Wasn't in the mood for rats. Though, Brad Dourif (good old Grima Wormtongue) is in it!

Night surf

I had to look this up to make sure it wasn't a sequel or something to another book. It is not. Good story. A bit depressing.

I Am the Doorway

Eyes in his fingers! Eyes in his fingers!

The Mangler

This story totally deserved a "Crack Treated Seriously" tag. And I found it fantastic.

The Boogeyman

I hated the main character in this one. Fuck him.

Gray Matter

🤮🤮🤮

Battleground

Again, Crack Treated Seriously. And fantastic.

Trucks

I probably laughed too much reading this. But seriously. Trucks are killing people. My kid said this is probably how Cars started. They brought up theory videos on YouTube that I will not be watching.

Sometimes They Come Back

Probably my favorite in the book. I own the movie, but haven't watched it since I was in high school. I remember loving the movie. Didn't realize it was a Stephen King movie until I saw the DVD on sale somewhere and I bought it. I remember nothing about the movie. Aside from someone comes back from somewhere. So I had some nostalgia going into this story, and was not disappointed.

Strawberry Spring

Oh, this one was great. Loved the ending. Which I hear is not something Stephen King is good at. 😂

The Ledge

Not a bad story.

The Lawnmower Man

I don't even think this crack was treated seriously.

Quitters, Inc

Stephen King has this habit of mentioning something in the beginning of a book or story and then calling back to it later. Which I enjoy. But with my shit memory I'm constantly like "Hey... Wasn't this mentioned before?" and I have to go back and find the bit to make sure I remembered correctly. This story did that. But overall a good story.

I Know What You Need

I watch a lot of True Crime stuff and expected the girl to get murdered. She did not. Made me happy.

Children of the Corn

I feel bad saying this, but I prefer the movie. The story was good, I'm not saying it was bad. I'm saying I preferred the movie based on my own personal preferences. The character of Burt was less of a douche in the movie. The movie had a happier ending. And I liked the inclusion of the two kids in the movie. Again, it wasn't a bad story.

The Last Rung on the Ladder

Okay, this one was just sad.

The Man Who Loved Flowers

True Crime by Stephen King.

One for the Road

This one is a sequel to Salem's Lot (which, thanks to Ryan I actually knew that because I probably would have looked it up to figure out where it fit in). Pretty good. Made me want to read Salem's Lot even more.

The Woman in the Room

This one was just sad, too. Stop making me sad, Mr. King!

All in all, great book. Highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys King's work.

6 Movies/TV Shows I Would Watch the F%*# Out Of

I constantly annoy Ryan with random ideas I have for shows or movies. Here's six that I have given him. With probably less detail than he had to deal with. Seriously, just imagine these in text message form. That is the shit he has to deal with from me.

And, I do not have a complete knowledge of every show/movie ever made, if any of these actually exist, someone let me know so I can check it out.

A What If…? Style show in the Star Wars universe

What if Anakin didn’t turn to the dark side?

What if Jango lived?

What if Order 66 didn’t happen?

So many what-ifs that I would love to see play out. And fan-fiction only gives me so much!

*whispers*

fan-fiction gives me all the things… Just not enough pretty pictures

Doctor Who spin-off focusing on Madame Vastra, Jenny, and Strax.

I don't think I need to explain how awesome this would be.

An educational show for adults.

I want this sort of like an educational show for kids, but for adults. Still teach history and science and all that (pronouns, teach people what pronouns are because apparently, a shit ton of people have no idea what a pronoun actually is). And also teach about how to do taxes and how health insurance works. But do it in a way that is entertaining. Give me Schoolhouse Rocks-type songs explaining how to write a resume.

A superhero movie that never reveals the hero’s secret identity

I just think it would be neat to have a superhero movie where you don't know who the hero actually is. Imagine the internet debates...

An Angel and Devil Roommate Comedy

A comedy where an angel and a demon are roommates. Each episode focuses on them trying to win a soul for their side. To do this they play “harmless” pranks on each other. But, they’re immortal so the pranks usually result in dismemberment and maiming. There is a chalk/whiteboard in a common area that they use to keep a tally of who wins a soul.

A supernatural detective show

Now, I know there are a number of detective shows with supernatural elements. But in those, the supernatural part is a big secret. I want a show where the supernatural things aren’t a big secret. Where there is just a part of the police or FBI or whatever that deals with criminals that are supernatural creatures.

And that's all I got for this round. Give me a comment if you know of any of these types of shows exist so I can check them out. And go follow me on the socials.

What I'm Watching

Just a quick refresher for anyone that forgot:

I started doing this years ago and it really helped me to actually finish watching shows instead of just starting something and then going back and watching random shit on YouTube for the next month. Which is what I’ve been doing for the past year, really. So, I’m going to start some posts talking about what I’m watching for each day and my thoughts, and my expectations to actually finish it.

Disney+

I miss Disney+. Been in a real Star Wars mood lately.

DVD/blu-ray

It (1990)

It has been years since I’ve watched this. Forgot Seth Green was in it. I love Seth Green. This was all I watched. I originally was going to play a video game and spent four hours waiting for the PS4 to do updates and install the game. By the time it was all ready to play, I wasn’t in the mood anymore so I watched It. Anyway! Great mini-series. I really need to read the book, by the way.

DVR

The Great North

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver

The Simpsons

Family Guy

Futurama

Caught up on The Great North and John Oliver. Then just put on FXX and watched it until I fell asleep.

HBO Max

Adam Ruins Everything

Up to season three. And I’m really missing Emily and Murph. Show is still awesome, I just grow attached to fictional characters very easily.

Hulu

Nope.

Netflix

Inside Job

There’s Someone Inside Your House

Malevolent

Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer

Watched season two of Inside Job. Which… Holy fuck! That is how it ends? I need more. Right now.

There’s Someone Inside Your House was good. Total Scream vibes. But not bad.

Malevolent was not what I expected. I went in expecting more ghosts. Still a quality horror flick.

Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer was interesting. Focused on the detectives that were on the Richard Ramirez case.

PlutoTV

Skipped

Prime

Pennywise: The Story of It

Children of the Corn (1984)

Where’s Rose

The Curse of Sleeping Beauty

The Story of It was cool to watch. Especially since I just watched the miniseries.

Children of the Corn was… Okay it was good. But those special effects in the end, man.

Where’s Rose was a good movie. Did not see that fucking plot twist. I am still recovering from that. Holy shit.

The Curse of Sleeping Beauty… Huh. Well, I won’t say it was bad. It wasn’t a shitty horror movie. It gave me indie horror game vibes because of the mannequins.

Then our power went out and I was creeped out the rest of the night. I usually end my horror movie watching with a couple hours of watching something light and fun. But I couldn’t.

Roku

Killer Mysteries

Very basic true crime show. Wasn’t bad. I did know a few of the stories from other true crime shows. Also, can we all just laugh at Dennis Rader again for the whole asking the cops if they could trace who he was with a floppy disc and believing them when they said no? Fucking hilarious.

Tubi

Murder Comes to Town

Yet more true crime. The narration on this one was very dramatic, which was hilarious, in my opinion. The reenactments were shit but the over-dramatic narration made up for it for me.

VUDU

It

It Chapter Two

Wow. So. Okay. Huh.

First, I had a legitimate fear that I would find Bill Skarsgård attractive in these movies. He is an attractive man and I was scared that after this I would develop a clown kink. Thank the fucking gods I did not.

Second, I really need to read this fucking book.

And finally, holy shit those were some good movies! Got a few good jump scares in on me. Which, good for them. I tend to not get jump scared because I’m expecting them too often. The movies are unsettling, and not because of the killer clown. And bits of the movies stuck in my brain as I was trying to go to sleep later.

YouTube

The Casual Criminalist - Dennis Rader: The BTK Killer

Again, can we laugh at this dude getting caught because he believed the police when they told him they couldn’t trace him through a floppy disc?

Sadly, no Mothman in this. But… plenty of other moths…

What I'm Watching

Just a quick refresher for anyone that forgot:

With the new year, I got back into scheduling what I watch. By that I mean, each day I focus on one streaming service or watching DVDs/blu-rays I own. Which is what I’ve been doing for the past year, really. So, I’m going to start some posts talking about what I’m watching for each day and my thoughts, and my expectations to actually finish it.

Disney+

Nope

Car is still in the shop. Stove needs replacing. As does the microwave.

DVD/blu-ray

DVR

HBO Max

Adam Ruins Everything

I fucking love this show. Adam Conover is great. River Butcher is fantastic as Adam’s lawyer sister, which… (apologies if I use the wrong language, I am still learning) This was before River came out as trans and was presenting as a female. But he was fantastic in the role of the annoyed sibling. Everyone in this show is fantastic honestly. And the topics covered are great. I love that the show would deliver harsh truths about things with humor.

Hulu

Bob’s Burgers

It has come to my attention that I will never finish watching this show because for some reason I keep going back to the first episode randomly and starting it all over again.

Netflix

Inside Job

Oh, this show. I mean that lovingly. I really enjoy this show. Watched the first season. Gonna try and finally watched the second next Netflix day. It’s just a really fun and hilarious show.

PlutoTV

Skipped

Wasn’t in the mood for watching Garfield and Friends again.

Prime

I… I forgot Prime existed. Oops.

Roku

Making a Serial Killer

Murderous Minds: Inside Serial Killers

First show wasn’t bad. Wasn’t the best true crime show I’ve watched, but not the worst.

The second show… Pretty sure I watched some of those episodes on YouTube. They also use clips from movies in the background. So, hey, got to see Jeremy Renner as Jeffrey Dahmer.

Tubi

Most Terrifying Places in America

Finished this one. Which makes me sad cause I fucking love this show.

VUDU

Supernatural

I do not like John Winchester. I can’t help it. I just don’t like the man. You know you done fucked up as a parent if you compliment your kid in some way he immediately thinks you’re possessed by a demon. Bobby is so much better.

Got about halfway through the second season. Kind of depressing to rewatch this show because I’m like “Oh! This character that I like! Wait… They die… Fuck!”

Pamali - Indonesian Folklore Horror - CJU Games

I've talked about how much I love CJUGames before. And this series is fun to watch. In the game, you have to deal with different beings from Indonesian folklore. And there are multiple endings and it's fun to watch CJU try to find as many as he can. My favorite bit is when he digs up all the graves. Go watch to see what I'm talking about. Totally worth it.
